The Mystery of Multiplication

Do you ever feel like you don’t have what it takes?
Like what you have to offer is insignificant—common, ordinary, not special?

John 6 tells one of the most well-known stories in the Bible: the feeding of the five thousand. Jesus is ministering to a large crowd when He challenges His disciples to feed everyone.

Their response reveals their mindset.

One disciple says, “Even if we had $24,000, it wouldn’t be enough for everyone to get more than a little.” Another adds, “There’s a small boy here with a small lunch… but what good is that with so many people?”

In other words: We don’t have enough. This won’t work.

Jesus was testing their hearts. Did they really believe God could do anything?

They couldn’t see past their current reality—and maybe you can relate. You may feel insignificant, overlooked, or less than. You don’t see how God could use you to do anything meaningful, especially anything on a greatness level.

But Jesus had a plan—not just to feed people, but to build faith and reveal how the Kingdom works.

God Math.

First, subtraction. Jesus took the boy’s lunch.
Then, division. Jesus broke it and shared it.
The result? Multiplication.

One small lunch fed an estimated 12,000 people.

Jesus used the offering of a small, unnamed boy to create a miracle people still talk about today.

You may feel small. You may feel insignificant. But God has a plan to do something big with you—with your gifts, your talents, and what you already have.

Never underestimate who you are or what God wants to do through you.

Prayer:
Father God, I lift my kids to You. Build their faith when life feels hard. Help them trust You even when things look impossible. Use who they are and what You’ve placed in them for something far bigger than they can imagine. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
